Spring breakaway camp

60 went to camp up at Coopers Beach from South Auckland and Northland. We all had such an awesome time. We were short of older leadership at camp once again. Our younger leaders did a fantastic job with the young people. Different activities we did were a trip to Cape Reianga, fishing for eels, flying fox, earthball sand volcanoes swimming, eating, 4 wheel bikes, a huge slippery slide, water fights, late nights, visit an historic gum diggers village. Late night crunchy hunt. Yes we had an awesome time. We also had a guest speaker to do our Solid Rock Times Roy from OAC (Christchurch) did a fantastic job with very clear and easy to understand gospel message. Ten young people wanted to know more about being a follower of Jesus. And 5 more recommitted there walk with Jesus. The weather was absolutely fantastic. One of the many highlights was the trip up North where for a lot of young people were the furtherest north they have ever been. Standing at the top of NZ was an amazing unforgettable experience. To cap it off going to the Sand dunes on boards was so much fun.

A group of 8 young people & Adults are heading over to Fiji to help YFC with there annual camp. We are needing assistance in raising the funds to go. Can you help us with a small or large donation to help us out to get the team and gear over to Fiji? There are usually 200 young people at camp from villages all over Fiji. Another need for camp is we want to take over some very needed bibles. Do you have any easy to read bibles “Good News” that are good for teenagers. We need your help can you help at workcamps, Summer Harvest as cluster group leaders, tent town parents, in the kitchen, security, etc. We also need trades people and maintenance type people that are great in farm situations to keep our camp going in the background e.g. toilets, power, water etc. Truck drivers, Nurses, doctors, lifeguards. Youth for Christ as seen many different faces this year and given many young people the opportunity to be a follower of Jesus. Can you help us, Scottie

Y-ONE Road Show tour (NORTHLAND)

Y-ONE went to 4 towns and 16 schools over the two weeks. The young people loved their school concerts so much that they flocked to the night concerts held in Whangarei, Taipa, Kaitaia, and Kerikeri. There were a lot of positive responses from kids wanting to know more about Jesus. They also wanted a youth group to join like Rock Solid. A big thanks goes to those who opened their homes up to the team for their stay around Northland. Y-ONE enjoyed playing at the YFC Ball where they opened for the LADS band. As a special treat, they checked out the Bay of Islands on the Excitor Fast Boat. As a result of Y-ONE coming through these towns, local Youth Groups in these areas are blessed with many new young people attending their gatherings. Thumbs up Y-ONE, you guys rock!

Some of their activities include 4-wheel bikes, canoeing, visiting Cape Reinga, gumfield, and playing lots of crazy games. All this will be going on in addition to having a chance to get connected with a live and kicking God. Already in Corel

Rock Solid

We have been on quite a roll this term with a new influx of leaders and kids. It has been a refreshing blast, but I guess all good things do have to come to an end. We have had some new leaders move on this term, but our numbers of kids have stayed in the 40 to 50 range. Basically, we need more help. We have began looking into getting more help this term. We have been looking at getting along with our families this term. God wants to adopt us into his own family. Y-ONE helped Rock Solid out heaps by promoting our Youth Week to even more kids. Rock Solid is such a vital mission to Intermediate aged youth. So please join us with this. Already in Corel

Summer Harvest 03-04 simply was a HUGE SUCCESS! Big Hit! MASSIVE

With more growth we are now a Huge Hit to the tune of 870 that turned up on the shores at Ocean Beach Northland. Have a look at these photos below. This years harvest we had lots of rain, wind, surf, sun & fun. All though the camp started off wet we still had a lot of awesome times. Once everything dried out then everything really began to crank along. News Years Eve was the highlight, we put on a massive news years eve party on an outdoor stage. A BIG thanks to the techos who shifted the sound and lighting system from the Marque to the truck trailers in the village. If you missed out on Summer Harvest this year contact us and get more info on our Next Summer Harvest 04 -05. Ring Scottie 09 4386059. If you have a youth group and plan to bring them along.

FROM Where I stand….Scotties Report

2003. What a year! And to finish it on such a high note with Summer Harvest 03-04! This has got to be the best Summer Harvest yet. Then having Tony Campolo come over in January to promote the work of YFC in NZ. Things were heading for a very positive start for 2004. Well by the time we started again in February we had a dilemma. We had no new volunteer workers to start off the year with. We assumed we would be flooded with helpers out of the Information Evening we ran with Tony Campolo. Only one person responded that they could help. So we are needing people to partnership with YFC’s vision to give every young person in Northland & NZ the opportunity to be a follower of Jesus Christ. If you look at the statistics for the Whangarei, Northland Area we have a very high population of 10 -14 year olds. Much higher than any other age group. . If you are looking for a mission field to invest your time and money into - here it is in our own backyard. It is so important to be able to provide positive role models for these young people that are growing up in our community around us today.. The biggest impact you could make is by spending time with a group of young people. That is why Rock Solid Club is such a valuable tool for reaching this age group cause we like to harness their excitement for life. The main thing we like to do is have a leader to get to know our young people in our small groups. And encouraging them to chase their dreams. But the biggest reason is to get along side them and show that they have a purpose for life, what God orginally designed. People ask me all the time what Youth for Christ is all about. My answer is simple. We are here for the young people to show them that someone cares. We are not a church. We are a mission group that want to connect young people with a living God. Our ultimate goal is to see the young people in your churches. The only way that will realistically happen for your church is that you need volunteer leaders with a small group taking the young people back to your church. YFC is the link between the street and the church. We are having more people contact us about starting YFC programmes around the North. What are you doing for young people in your area? NORTHLAND

Rock Solid Club report (for ages 11 – 13 year olds)

We pulled our very small Rock Solid leadership team together and gave the option. We could shut club until l we have enough help, or lets do the best with what we have and get started. We had 40 kids really keen to do Rock Solid again. So we got underway. We still need leaders for our Rock Solid Club. So far this term we have had a huge wacky games nights, Famine Extreme Sleepover, the Great Easter Hunt, Motor Mania & IWT. The young people keep coming, we have picked up a whole lot of fresh faces this year. But we are still very stretched at the moment. We are holding back from properly launching club from the Intermediate schools. Rock Solid is in critical need for help on any level. If you are a 6th or 7th former, working, unemployed or a parent, we really could do with you on our team. As I said before, we will do the best with what we have got. In the bible it says “In our weakness he is Strong”

Ontheroad Rock Solid Camp 2004 NORTHLAND TOUR

Ever dreamed of visiting a place you have never explored before? Well the shores of Northland are waiting for you. We have an excellent tour happening in the first week of the School holidays from 13 - 17 April. We will be starting our tour in Whangarei, travel to Dargaville and experience (4-wheel bikes) Motor Mania, then next day visit the scenic lakes of Kai iwi just north of Dargaville for a very, very lovely remote peaceful swim. Then your tour takes you North to the majestic Waipoua Forest. With a very large Kauri Tree 'Tane Mahuta'. Then for the fun seeker in you, your tour takes you to the amazing Opononi where you catch a boat over to the Sand Dunes. Grab a board and see how fast you can launch yourself down the dunes, skimming across the sea.

Next we catch a car ferry and head further North to Kaitaia (more 4-wheel biking on the famous 90 mile beach). Head further North to the furthermost point in New Zealand. That's right- Cape Reinga! What a sight you see where the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet. We then head south for a feed at NZs award winning fish n chip shop in Mangonui. Head further south to Paihia (Bay of Islands), rise at the crack of dawn and head out on a massive 50 foot power machine called the "Excitor".It will take us around the Bay of Islands and out to Percy Island (hole in the rock). After that we head back to Whangarei and home again.

Well would you believe it this is a "ontheroad" Rock Solid camp happening these school holidays

13 - 17 April 2004. Would you believe it! We can't find any leaders willing to come on such a cool camp?. We are urgently looking for leaders to fill these positions:

2x Drivers, 2x Female leaders, 1x more cook to help Renate with the meals

The opportunities are endless for great discussions with the young people while we travel.

Here is an opportunity for you to help.

If you are not doing anything these holidays please contact:

FIJI SAFARI CAMP Dec 2003

Fiji Safari Camp was such an awesome experience by all who went. We went to give out and help out at their YFC teenage camp in Suva, held at a local Highschool. We took some technical equipment over like a P.A system, video projection editing gear & playstation2. What we received back while we were over there, has benefitted us personally. We had a couple of days holiday before camp and visited BeachComber Island and hung around the nice cool pool a lot. The camp was broken up into simple but effective theme days. The first night we had a Pacific Island night. We were treated to excellent fire dancing etc. The next day was beach day where we headed to a beach for the day. Next we had service day where the young people were split up into groups and did work at the school, an old peoples home and out at a plantation. Fijians are very much into their sport. They love volleyball, Rugby (Johnny Wilkinson) & food. Eki, (YFC director - Fiji ), has got an awesome team over there. Yes YFC Northland are definitely taking over another team for 2004. If you would be interested, contact Scottie 4386059 or scottie@yfc.org.nz if you would like to join our team for this year.

Area Profile around Northland

Up in the Far North

Doubtless bay Northland

Hi there from Doubtless Bay Baptist Church. Our names are James and Miria Newman and we are coordinating the youth group at our church since term four last year. We have no formal youth leader training, but felt that God wanted us to lead the youth, and our lack of training doesn't seem to bother Him!!James is also a fulltime highschool science teacher at Taipa Area school, and this gives him plenty of opportunities and contacts with the youth.

We've found YFC at Whangarei to be an invaluable resource for us in terms of contact and moral support from Scottie and his team, and also all the great events that we can hook into, as there is not much happening up here. We went to Summer Harvest with about 14 of our youth, including three from school who usually don't come to youth group. They all had a ball, and want to go again next year. The three from school responded to the altar call, and there has been more openess towards God from them and the other youth since. It was also a good time for us to get to know each other a bit better.

Unfortunately, being in a rural area with long distances to travel makes it difficult for some youth to regularly attend youth group, and this is where events like the ones YFC host are really good in terms of getting kids along who normally wouldn't attend youth group.

Some things we're hoping to be a part of are Expressions. We have the beginnings of a youth worship band starting (CTC here we come!!) and hopefully Y-One can come to our school...

We have a great team of people around us, Sylvio Zapphino, Christine Lane, Susan and Colin Dawson, they all help us to bear the load and bringing in aspects that we're lacking in! We are all volunteering, and all have a heart to see the youth in Doubtless Bay irrevocably fired up to love and follow Jesus with all their hearts.

Some of our youth to watch for at this point are Stephanie Lane, who will be helping Scottie out over the year, and is applying for DTS in Oak Ridge, then after that hoping to complete the YFC internship. Then there’s Sam Hobbs who will be doing some correspondence papers from Bible college with a view to be a youth pastor.

So we look forward to seeing God move here, and any prayers you send up for us would be much appreciated...Thanks, James and Miria.

Welcome!

Scottie at the ballHi! Thanks for picking our newsletter up. As you read we hope you are inspired about what Youth for Christ are up to with young people. You will read about...crazy October. We finally made it! YFC has been involved in all sorts of mission projects from the beginning of October with Spring Breakaway taking intermediate aged young people to Taupo on camp, then into YFC Charity Auction and then Y-One came into Northland for two weeks. We also had a great YFC Ball and we finished October with the Awesome Auckland Adventure at Rainbow’s End as well as our weekly club work with Rock Solid.
You can see we have survived and now we are focusing on our Summer Harvest promos in schools and of course getting Summer Harvest site all ready for summer. The Lads also have a concert in Whangarei in December and are helping out with Summer Harvest.
Do you want to get involved?

Becky's Report

A Jesus Centred: We are committed to following and imitating Jesus
B Mission Through Service: We have the privilege of being co-labourers of the servant Jesus, bringing good news to lost young people
C People Focused: We are committed to the God given dignity of all people
D Priesthood of all believers: All of us are called to serve God in mission
E Generosity: We will generously commit all we have to Jesus and this mission
F Creativity: We honour Creator God with the best of our expression
If you have a heart for bringing good news to lost young people please contact Youth for Christ! scottie@yfc.org.nz or phone 09 438 6059

I can’t believe it’s November! Now I have finished one year at Bible College. I hear in December if I have made it through to next year for my Diploma of counselling Course. It’s been a hard but rewarding year and having the first anniversary of mum’s passing come and go was strange for me. For those you don’t know my mum passed away in October last year of cancer. So this yearhas been an interesting year for my family and I. But God is faithful and I see how He has been faithful to YFC too this year. Financially we have made it through and are looking good so far.
Becky & AsherThe Charity Auction gave us a boost that we needed. Another highlight was the success of the Ball.

Anyway I would like to say a personal thank you to those supporting me. It always comes at the right time. I’m hoping to be accepted into my course next year and again I’d like to ask for your prayer support while I’m at Bible College and I think I will be needing a new car since mine is getting old. The weekly trips to Auckland are wearing the car down. So prayer is much appreciated. Finally Merry Christmas (that is coming up very quick!) and Happy Holidays! I pray that you feel God’s presence with you and that the real meaning of Christmas touches your hearts. Love, Becky and Asher x0x0x

Janine’s report

The past few weeks were really busy but I appreciated the results we achieved though it was a little stressful and I didn’t sleep much. "They were worth it"! I got some new experiences like running a charity auction and managing an office and it was a very challenging time that let me grow. The Spring Breakaway Camp was a great experience for me and I really hope that some of our kids came home as new people and touched by Jesus. I absolutely enjoyed the Ball even if it was painfull (for my feet!) afterwards. It was great to see how God is looking after me because my Ball dress arrived from Germany on the same day. I made some good friends with our Rock Solid kids and I'm looking forward to the time I can spend with them. I hope that God changes our hearts and the hearts of the kids in Fiji in December. Bye bye! Janine

Y-One 2006

… are 6 young people who have given their whole year to the mission of sharing Jesus with young people all around New Zealand and Samoa. They would have performed to 60,000 young people by the end of this year. Y-One were in Northland for two weeks spending one week around the far north. During their time here they played at 11 schools and at our YFC Ball and had 3 night concerts. This group had such a servant heart and helped YFC a lot while being in Northland. They performed in Whangarei, Kerikeri and Dargaville. The young people had an opportunity to respond in which they have. In Whangarei as part of our follow up we have started a discipleship course called RockONZ which is designed as a discovering Jesus course. Please pray for us as we share our faith in Jesus with these young people.

In this year's team we had our very own Leah Purves who came to Breakfast club and also performed in many Expressions.

Please pray for the Y-One team which has finished their year on the road and gone home. We want to thank them for what they have put into young lives around New Zealand. One opportunity we had was performing at the Otangarei Primary School. On that same day they were having a march against violence in their community. Y-One were invited to perform and Scottie did an inspiring talk about if you want changes in your community it needs to start with yourself, then spread to your home, which in turn flows into other people in the community. You can make a difference by treating others the way you would like to be treated. As a result YFC has been asked to help the school out with its 11 to 12 year olds. The school replied back with a very powerful haka. Praise God for these opportunities! As a result we have 4 new Rock Solid kids from Otangarei now.

Charity Auction

Charity Auction

Thanks to those businesses and individuals that gave us a hand by donating goods and their time! We raised an amazing $6739! A big thanks to all those who attended the Auction. We really appreciate your help & support for YFC and what it does around Northland. Young people...they are worth it!

Rock Solid Club

Term 4 ...has been really good for Rock Solid. We picked up new young people from school promos and Y-One concerts. Each event/camp totally filled up past our capacity. A big thanks to Grant, Rebecca and Jasmin who have joined our Rock Solid team. The main thing is pray for those young people that are discovering more about Jesus at RockONZ our brand new follow up for new Christians. Rock Solid has some expansion plans for Whangarei and want to get involved with young people that don't go to church. Please invest your life to help us reach Northland youth! Maybe in 2007 we need your help? If you have a passion for reaching young people…contact us NOW!

Awesome Auckland Adventure 2006 Imagine 5 van loads of very excited Northland young people arriving in Auckland to go ice skating and then join in with 860 other kids for Rock Solid’s annual take over of Rainbow’s End. The young people had an amazing time and Y-One performed to them at the end and shared testimonies as well. A BIG thanks to our drivers and leaders who were exhausted afterwards.

Freedom Ball 2006

250 young people all dressed up beautifully danced the night away celebrating their freedom. We also focused in on WOZA, a group of persecuted Christian women in Zimbabwe who don’t have their rights to freedom. Our young people helped to sign a letter to the president to ask for them to set free. We thank Amnesty International for allowing us to work with them on this project. Using the ASB Lounge turned out to be a successful move along with new challenges. There was an amazing atmoshere, great lighting (thanks James!) and great yummy food (Thanks Lana & Megan!). Thanks to DJ Clay and Y-One who diod a great job. All in all it was a very busy time but wiorth while. As a result the ball was able to raise $700 to send off to Amnesty for the women of Zimbabwe.

Slykerman Family Support Update

Scottie & Jesse

“Glory to God”! Our family is so grateful to those who have donated money to us over these last two months. We have received some wonderful one off gifts that have meant we have been able to pay all of this months bills. Different story to last month when we wrote out our last cheque. All I can say is God is good. We still have a long way to go of getting regular support in. If you’re able to support us $20 a month of even $200 a month please set up an Automatic payment for the Slykerman family as they try to raise support to meet their $500 per month short fall in support. Being faith supported missionaries God blesses us in many ways. Please journey with us to reach young people in Northland! God bless Scottie, Renate & Jesse

Spring Breakaway Camp

Northland & South Auckland Rock Solid Clubs joined to invade Turangi during October holidays. We had a great bunch of young people journey down with us in 5 vans. A big thanks to Mark and the great team of helpers at camp. Most of our leaders were from overseas (Germany or USA). Our trip to the snow was disappointing as it was blowing and miserably cold. Our kids still managed to have fun sliding down the slopes on tyre tubes. Oh well, can’t have it perfect every year! Through all the games, sports, activities, chapel times and making friends we had many opportunities to share and talk about Jesus. Please pray for our leaders as they continue to build relationships with these young people.

Fiji Safari Camp 2006

We are going to help serve Youth for Christ Fiji with their Safari Camp in December. We still are $3000 off raising our team target. If you want to help us get there to assist Fijian young people who don’t know about Jesus to be impacted please help us with a small donation, join our team or pray for us for safety over this uncertain time on the political scene. Our team leaves 30th November and returns on the 10th December. We will travel 12 hours by boat from Suva to Savusavu then travel 3 hours Fijian styles by buses to Lambasa on one of Fiji’s northern islands. Please pray for our health and well being there!

New Face at YFC

It was a little wonder that we met Jasmin, an exchange student from Germany studying at Pompallier College, who is now a very faithful volunteer for YFC Northland. Whenever we desperately need someone, we can count on Jasmin being there! Even though we just got to know each other she came to the Spring Breakaway Camp and afterwards she got involved in almost everything during our crazy “Rocktober”.Jasmin Thanks for your enthusiasm and your great help! We really appreciate having met you. For us you have been sent by God just for the right time.

Area Profile: Dargaville

Jae and her husbandHi there my name is Jae Carey. If it wasn't for YFC where would I be….. interesting thought. I grew up in one of those homes where anything attached to a church was not our thing. But when the Y-One team came to my school in 1992 we thought they were great & went along to the concert night which started the relationship with YFC which saw me at Campus life, Breakfast Club, Summer Harvest, any other camps that eventually lead to me giving my heart to Jesus so after 15 years and 3 children I find myself back in the north where my husband is a pastor in Dargaville, we are really excited about the prospect of having more YFC things been done in our little town. I often think to myself how can we reach those kids that won't go near a church? I guess the simple answer is to meet them when they are at in the schools, in their sports teams so we are praying for opportunities to reach the non church youth of Dargaville. Thanks, Jae and Nigel

U 2 can make a difference ..SURGE
19 – 22 April 2007 in WANGANUI

This is YFC NZ’s new flagship event. Surging into Wanganui from 19th - 22nd April 2007. Surge is something we hope will be an ongoing annoying consistent reminder that Christ’s presence is alive and well. Each year, Surge will visit a location where we can work alongside local communities serving people, sharing Christ’s love with a spade and potato peeler and paintbrush.
By day participants work up a sweat working hard in the community, by night the sweat is worked up celebrating the life Christ has given.

Welcome!

ScottieGreetings from Northland!
Firstly we would like to THANK all those who are faithfully supporting us in prayer, those who have willingly given up their time for us and those who continue to support us by generously giving to keep our mission wheels turning. It is, and carries on being, a very challenging and rewarding journey in our mission with the young people, and God continues to pull through for us in those times we need him the most. Also, the change process of YFC is now complete here in NZ. We are fully operating with the new mission. Please read on and sense our excitement of what God has done and continues to do in our lives and amongst our young people.

Do you want to get involved?

Goodbye Juanita!

Juanita Coffani

One of our very committed, key volunteers is heading over to live in Australia with her mum.

Juanita has been an amazing, faithful leader since 1997 in Rock Solid.

Her commitment to the young people has been outstanding and she will be greatly missed!

Please pray for her as she re-establishes herself for her future over in Aussie.

We wish Juanita the very best and pray that she will impact young peoples lives over there as she has over here. We will miss you!

Janine’s Report

Half of my time is already over. I had a great summer and enjoyed the work at Summer Harvest where I helped out in the busy kitchen. In January my parents came to visit me. We made a trip to the South Island where we had a wonderful time. Now I'm looking forward to April when the next camp is coming up. It is a good opportunity to show the kids how a life with God looks like.

Personally I found my new favourite hobby for my spare time: Bushwalking! My goal is to know all the tracks around Whangarei by the end of my time here. For me it's also an opportunity to meet God in the nature. I never took the time before for just "walking around". I was rushing from one thing to the next and never stopped to get a rest outdoors and to listen to God's voice.
Bye bye!
Janine

SUMMER HARVEST 06/07

We had an awesome time at Summer Harvest over New Years. This year was slightly different as the whole working team played a part in the running of the show. Scott (Northland), Ness(Auckland) and Mark (South Auckland), also known as the leadership team, helped to lead the workers together.
We had such a great volunteer team working at Harvest Camp. It is also awesome to have such enthusiastic youth groups joining us, using Harvest camp as a part of their evangelism to their mates, as they are able to invite them to come along and join in the fun.

The weather, this year, seemed quite touchy. Although, for the majority of the time, it was pretty good, the rain stayed away most of the time and it wasn't too breezy. We were very happy!

We were blessed to have the band, 'the Lads' at Harvest this year. Not only did we have the privilege of hearing them play, but Mark also shared some of his faith experiences with the young people. Summing everything up: our team grew, the young people were presented with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ and everyone had heaps of fun.
Planning for next year has already started and we are so excited about the ideas, which have been put forward so far, to come into practice. If you would like to be involved in Summer Harvest next year, bring your youth group or promote Summer Harvest in your school, please, don't hesitate to contact us at northland@yfc.org.nz.

the LADS BAND in Concert

In December the band 'The Lads' traveled up to Whangarei and presented us with a concert at the Cross Roads Church. A 'big thanks!' to The Lads for coming all the way up north for the concert. Many young people from around Northland turned up and were challenged about their faith in Jesus. The Lads challenged them to think about making Jesus the central part of their lives and letting him direct them to doing something amazing for God.

Catatac Bay of Islands Fundraiser Cruise

FUNDRAISER A big thank you to Alan & Karen for a great day out for our Catatac fundraiser in January. We raised $1500 towards our work with young people at Youth Zone.
Thanks also to our hosts Mike & Valarie and all those lovely people that came on the day!

THANKSAnd Thanks

Project Serve FIJI SAFARI CAMP

As you probably know, Fiji had a coup last year just as we were about to go out and help YFC Fiji with their safari camp in Lambasa. Unfortunately the camp was cancelled and we couldn't go. Air pacific were very kind to reschedule our tickets. Janine and Justin are going to be heading over in May 2007 to assist with the Fiji Rock Solid camp on the coral coast and Scottie is going over in December 07.

Scottie & Renate Family Support Update

ScottieWe had a strange short break after Summer Harvest this year. It felt a bit different not going anywhere. Jesse is growing up fast. He's got his first bottom and top teeth now and zooms along the floor with his very unique crawling style. This means though that we can't leave him in the middle of the floor and be content in knowing he'll stay there!
Due to our faith support being so low Renate managed to score a very good after school job teaching drama classes to 5-8 year olds for two hours on a Thursday. I quickly zoom home to do some baby sitting and work from home all Thursday afternoon. We are very much in need of some more supporters to help us with our faith support. Please contact us if you can help, we would be so grateful. We still have a long way to go of getting regular support in. If you’re able to support us $20 a month of even $200 a month please set up an Automatic payment for the Scottie & Renate's family as they try to raise support to meet their $500 per month short fall in support. Being faith supported missionaries God blesses us in many ways. Please journey with us to reach young people in Northland!
God bless Scottie, Renate & Jesse

Children’s Day – Mair Park

Rock Solid offered to help Barnados and other organizations out with Children's Day. The kids loved jumping around in the sack race, playing giant volley ball and scaling the heights of the earth ball. It was so rewarding to see the smiles of the children when they had accomplished the task in hand. A big 'thanks!' to Juanita, Janine and Jasmin who came and helped on this very full day. There were about 2000 people/children at this event and we estimated that we had about 1000 children through our activities during the day!

New Face at YFC

Hi! I am Caleb,
I am another young person that was helped on my journey for Christ by YFC through the camps and activities like Summer Harvest and Spring Breakaway.

I walked in the door of Scottie's office to see if there was anything I could help w

Caleb

ith whilst I do 2 years at bible college and to my surprise after 10 years…. Scottie remembered who I was and luckily he was in great need of my help!
Therefore, I will be giving my time to help other young people to know how great God is and that a life living for him is simply the best!
I am looking forward to going on more road trips and being part of the camps as a leader rather than a young person. But most of all, I'm looking forward to getting to know all the young dudes and dudettes!
Thanks for your enthusiasm and your great help! We really appreciate having met you. For us you have been sent by God just for the right time.

Rock Solid Club

The Rock Solid Club happens every Tuesday night. We have been up to all sorts of exciting and challenging things here in Whangarei, from messing around on 4-wheel bikes, running around town and getting to know Jesus.

At the end of last year we had a great time with a bunch of young people who wanted to find out more about Jesus. We had the privilege and awesome chance of doing a 'Discovering Jesus' course with them. Also, Dargaville Rock Solid is starting up in May, after Y-ONE comes through Northland. Please pray for the new team led by Nigel and Jae. Pray that they will get the numbers and the strength for it to be a success. So far this year we have got a great bunch of young people regularly attending Rock Solid and numbers seem to be growing, even seeing some new faces the other day at the Famine sleepover. Still, we really need your prayers for new leaders to become available as we are losing some of our key volunteers.

Surge
To reflect the changes of YFC in NZ there is a new project for young people in April. It seems that the problem today is the way our faith is confined to being in church. We, at YFC, had this crazy idea of taking young people from all around NZ to Wanganui for 3 days to serve the community. We will be doing all sorts of projects, from painting houses to rebuilding walkways, working alongside the locals. The young people get a chance to work hard during the day and then party hard at night at the various activities YFC will put together. People, young and old, are all getting very excited about serving the community of Wanganui.

YONE 2007
Y-ONE are due on the shores of Northland from the 29th April to the 13th of May. They will tour schools all around Northland and put on a concert for all those 11-14year olds. They will also be performing at 'Expressions Talent Quest', run by YFC in May, and hopefully, helping to launch Dargaville Rock Solid. We are still in need of more places for them to stay whilst visiting us here in Whangarei and so if you are able to provide a room etc that would be such a great help to the team and to us.
Please pray for the Y-ONE team as they continue to travel around New Zealand, expressing their love for Jesus to the young people. Pray that they will make a difference here in Whangarei and the young people will be impacted by their visit and their willingness to serve God and the community all year round. Also please pray that we will be able to find sponsors to support the Y-ONE concert at Forum North so as to keep the cost low for the young people who want to attend.
